Russell and Myra Strand
Special Agent Russell Strand (Retired)
Russell W. Strand is a retired US Army CID Senior Federal Special Agent and Sexual Harassment & Assault Response & Prevention (SHARP) Program Manager, Lead Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC), victim advocate, and Violence Prevention Program Manager and retired Chief of the Behavioral Sciences Education & Training Division for the US Army Military Police School. Russ is a recognized national/international recognized expert in response and prevention of crimes against persons and harmful behaviors including child abuse, interpersonal violence, sexual harassment and assault, human trafficking, and death investigations. He has been inducted in the US Army Military Police Hall of Fame and received visionary awards from both End Violence Against Women International and St. Lukes Health System.
With over 50 years of specialized experience working with offenders, victims, survivors of crime, creating training prevention and education programs, he is further recognized as an expert educator, visionary leader, and consultant by military, governmental, higher education, and public and private organizations around the world.
Russ has personally provided prevention and criminal justice training and education through plenaries, seminars, briefings, and workshops to well over 800,000 professionals. He is currently the owner/creative visionary for Effective Detective LLC and Co-Owner of Strand Squared Solutions LLC.
Russ is a yoga instructor, a technical scuba diver in training, and a talented woodworker.
Myra Strand, MA, CA
Myra Strand, MA, CA, is co-owner of Strand², where she provides training and technical assistance. She specializes in trauma-informed, healing-centered practices. Her expertise includes psychophysiological effects of trauma, human-centric interviewing, advocacy, crime dynamics, technology and victimization, applied intersectionality, professional wellness, and organizational trauma.
Since 1995, Myra has supported people affected by trauma, including people with complex trauma and mental illness, individuals with developmental disabilities, in spaces of incarceration- both adults and adolescents, and survivors navigating family court after fleeing domestic violence. She has had the opportunity to work with all types of victims of crime and has a special emphasis on changing the systemic response for victims of trafficking.
Myra is an adjunct professor who has experience teaching victimology, violence, ethnic and gender studies, intersectionality, and human sexuality. She has also provided education in correctional facilities, teaching people who are incarcerated about trauma, post-traumatic growth, and self-regulation. Nationally recognized, Myra aims to deliver human-centric, compassionate responses to victims of crime, fostering a healing-oriented environment through education and reform.
Myra is a yoga instructor, a technical scuba diver in training, an acrylic artist, and a doctoral student.
